Chicken Coop Plans - Planning And Preparing The Build
Keeping birds as pets are a great thing, but actually getting ready for them to arrive is a totally different story. A poultry house is possibly the biggest financial outlay, so it is a wise thing to try and get some chicken coop plans and have a go at doing it yourself.
Here is one thing that needs to be taken into consideration though; you do not need to be a DIY expert to actually build a poultry house. All you need is basic knowledge and plans and that should be enough.
Maintaining A Poultry House
Maintenance can be a pain, but in reality it is something that has to be done, there is really no way around it. When building the poultry house using chicken coop plans, it is always a good idea to ensure that it is designed in such a manner that makes it easy to maintain.
The best thing that can be done is to make the floor at a slant, so that it points towards the door. This will enable it to be cleaned a lot easier than usual, in particular, when fluids are being used.
Deciding on The Size
When chickens have adequate amounts of space, they will generally be more comfortable and calm. This means that they will be a lot nicer to look after and certainly will not become aggressive towards one another.
One thing that should be taken note of is this; a chicken will expect to have around 4 square foot each, and if this is not the case, the aggressive behavior mentioned above is like to come into play.
Weather and Predators
There are two things that can harm your poultry more than anything; weather and predators. Using the chicken coop plans, you should be able to determine some methods to keep them safe and comfortable at all times.
The most obvious thing to do to stop it flooding would be the build it high up. The easiest way to do this would be to build legs onto the bottom of the coop. Installing a drainage system would also help.
Keeping predators out is not actually particularly hard. Making sure the construction of the house is strong is the biggest thing to ensure. Mesh wire and hard wood should be used throughout.

Really Nasty Sacs Found On Bird's Leg? What Are They?
We raise organic grass-fed poultry, specifically turkeys. Recently, one of them died, after being killed by another animal that raided their pen. Upon checking the turkey after death, it had several large, protruding sacs sticking out from its legs. Two on each leg, incredibly large sacs, filled with air, larger than any organ in its body. They were disgusting, seemingly connected to the muscle tissue itself, as if they had grown so large they had pushed their way through the muscle, and were a milky, transparent white color. When we punctured the sacs, they released air, and underneath we found a large, gaping hole in the leg the size of a ping pong ball through which could be seen the bone of the leg, tendons, and various other tissue systems. This was the same for all four of the sacs. Does anyone know what these things might be, or what caused them to protrude that way? Is it a disease? A Virus?
Answer:
Your birds had been bitten by a Fly, specifically, a type of Bot fly.which punctures the skin then lays it's egg in the hole that it had prepared , you need to check all your birds and to be on the safe side call in a vet,
The fluid is an infection and your other birds may need treatment.
It is not a Virus this is caused by an insect.
