Greasing A Toro Riding Mower: How Life Can Be Simpler When You Know How
To grease a Toro riding mower you need to follow these steps in order–prepare your materials, set the parking brake and take off the key, clean the mower, wipe the fittings and use the grease gun to apply grease, apply grease on the grease fitting inside the steering wheel, apply grease on the fitting near the pivot point of the idler pulley, use the ratchet and socket to take off the spindle covers, clean the grease fitting of the bearing spindles and apply grease and, fasten the covers securely and run the mower for several minutes.
Toro riding mowers are one of the market leaders in the lawnmower industry. One of the reasons behind the popularity of Toro mowers is that they require only routine maintenance. Lubricating the idler and spindle bearings as well as the steering mechanism is key to maintaining your Toro lawnmower. Lubricating these components once every session with the right lithium complex is sufficient. These are the steps that you must follow while greasing your Toro riding mower:
Get your materials ready
When you greased your Toro lawnmower, make sure you gather up lithium grease, a grease gun, rags, a ratchet and socket.
Put the brake in park and remove the key
Make sure you set the parking break so that your mower won’t cause an accident.
Clean the mower
Remembering to clean your lawnmower after each use, and before you lubricate the components that we’ve already mentioned, is of the utmost importance. Cleaning the Toro mower regularly will keep it from accumulating dirt, rust and contaminants.
After the fittings have been wiped off, you simply apply grease via the grease gun
Locate the axle grease fittings which are situated on the forward axle. Near the front of your mower is an axle barrel into which these fittings can be screwed or tapped. Using a rag, wipe the fittings to remove any debris and dirt. After wiping the fittings, use the grease gun to apply grease on each fitting. The lever should be worked until the grease begins to ooze from the seals.
The grease fitting, found in the steering wheel’s innards, is where you add the grease
Rotate the steering wheel to the right and grease the grease fitting. It is located within the right-hand, forward wheel. If you make a few more strokes, you should see grease coming out of the seals. One should turn the wheel counter-clockwise and grease it with a grease gun. You should repeat the process to make certain the wheel has the proper lubrication.
The idler pulley has a pivot point with a nearby fitting where you should put the grease
Lower the deck of the mower until you come to the lowest possible setting. The idler pulley is located on the top of the mower deck. The grease fitting is located right above the pivot point of the idler. Use the grease gun to apply grease with about three or four drops but first you should clean the fitting.
Use the ratchet and socket to take off the spindle covers
The spindle bearings are protected by the covers on both sides of the deck. They go over the grease fittings, too. Remove all the covers and put them away carefully so they don’t get lost, and use a ratchet and socket to do this.
You must Clean the grease fitting of the bearing spindles as well as put some grease
Before greasing the two bearing spindles, you need to first clean the grease fittings. Connect your grease gun, pumping several times per fitting. You should turn the spindle by hand at least twice, perhaps three times, and then apply 3 shots of grease.
Run the mower for sometime after safely sealing the covers
Use the ratchet and socket to replace the spindle covers and fasten them securely. Begin to operate the lawnmower with the blades engaged for several minutes. By doing this, it allows the grease to work into the spindle bearings.
