Hydraulic Replacement Parts
Jastram Engineering (Wagner) Steering Systems - Part 1
Replacement of Master Brake Cylinder on Cars
It is known to all that various mechanical components are on cars. Hydraulic pump is one of important parts. Hydraulic pump, which is a water pump that uses the kinetic energy of flowing water to force a small fraction of that water to a reservoir at a higher level, is a mechanical device used to move liquids in a hydraulic system.
Except for its applications in cars, it can be used in many other applications. Generally, its application can be summarized as transferring and circulation of liquids within light industry and farming irrigation and pressure boosting. And it also can be applied tin cooling systems and air-conditioning systems.
In the daily application of hydraulic pump, especially in the hydraulic installation, one pump can serve more cylinders and motors. The attendant problem however is that in that case a constant pressure system is required and the system always needs the full power. It is more economic way to solve this problem is to give each cylinder and motor its own pump.
The hydraulic pump has a close relationship with the car's master brake cylinder. As a result, if it is defective, it can cause many problems with the brake system. Thus, in order to keep the proper function of the brake system, you should pay attention to the hydraulic pump as well as the master brake cylinder. The following are some guides for the replacement of the master brake cylinder if necessary.
Before the replacement, you have to prepare some essential tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and lug wrench, etc. Then you have to use the car jack to jack up the vehicle, and then place jack stands underneath it so you can work under the car.
Secondly, you should use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts on your wheels, and then disconnect the hoses from the master cylinder. After that, you may remove the retaining clip that attaches the brake fluid level sensor to the brake fluid reservoir. Then, remove the brake fluid sensor from the vehicle.
Thirdly, the screws or bolts that attach the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder should also be removed. After all of these steps, you can loosen the bolts that hold the master cylinder in place and remove it from the engine area.
Fourthly, you may remove the snap ring from the master cylinder and discard it. At the same time, you should pull the piston from the master cylinder. Apply lubrication to the new piston and then insert it into the master cylinder. Take the bolt that is removed earlier, and bolt in the new master cylinder.
Fifthly, you should connect the hydraulic brake hoses to the new master cylinder and tighten them with a wrench. After then, you have to reinstall brake fluid reservoir and fluid level sensor, and fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid.
